Once upon a time…
Traditions in Ariège

At the gates of Foix, there once was a forgotten village where activity leaders and craftsmen immerse you in the small and great history of the Pyrenees in 1900.

Meet the blacksmith at work, the bread oven, the master glassmaker, the basket maker, the writing workshop, not forgetting in the “Scios” river, the gold panner in summer.

This original and atypical museum presents, throughout the visit, pastoral life, means of transport, grain and bread work, subsistence activities, the school in 1900, small trades, old toys, ceremonial headdresses, religious art, the production of Ariège gentleman glassmakers, ironwork, furniture, domestic objects…

The museum notably has the largest known collection of utensils and containers made of “crespal” (containers hollowed out of tree trunks), including a rare cupboard carved from a huge fir tree.
